Sending Us Your Turbocharger

Whether you are sending us your turbocharger for repair, have purchased a turbocharger from us on an Exchange Basis, or are returning it as part of a warranty claim, we have prepared this handy guide to make the process easier.  Whatever the situation, you must ensure that the turbocharger is well and securely packaged to avoid damage in transit.

Please Note: We would kindly ask that you contact us in the first instance, before sending us your turbocharger.  This will make the whole process run a lot smoother and expedite any repairs, refunds or deposit reimbursements that may be due. Exchange turbos must be returned to us within 14 days, otherwise the warranty for your turbocharger will be revoked, as per our >>Terms & Conditions<<.

We have also provided, within this guide, helpful links to the shipping documents that must be included when sending us your turbocharger.  This will also make the process run smoother for everybody.

Packing Your Turbocharger

The Box

You must ensure that the box you choose is of an appropriate size and in good condition.  It doesn’t have to be a new box, just one that will be sturdy enough to endure the rigours of shipping. The turbocharger should take up the majority of the space within the box, but still have enough room for a substantial amount of packaging material.

Tip: It is advisable to place additional sheets of strong cardboard (or a double-/triple-layer of thinner cardboard) to reinforce the bottom of the box.  This will go a long way to making sure your turbocharger does not break out through the bottom.

Use a good quality packaging tape when constructing the box (or, if using a previously used box, to reinforce the sides and bottom).  Do not skimp on the tape on the bottom of the box. In our experience, this is where the majority of box failures occur.

When sending us your turbo, make sure the bottom is securely taped.

Packing & Packaging Material

A suitable impact absorbing material should be used to cushion the turbocharger on all sides, whilst it is inside the box. Bubble wrap, scrunched up packing paper and/or expanding foam bags are all acceptable options.

Note: We do not advise using just the small, expanded foam “packing peanuts” as the sole packaging material.  Due to the motion of the process of packing and shipping, these “peanuts” have a tendency to work their way up and around the turbo. This means the turbocharger will sink to the bottom of the box, where there will be no real protection underneath and potentially causing damage (to both the turbocharger and/or the box).

Place a thick layer of packaging material into the bottom of the box.  This should be enough that when placing the turbocharger into the box, this layer positions it approximately in the centre of the total volume of the box.

When sending us your turbocharger, put a thick layer of packing material at the bottom of the box.
A thick layer of packing material will cushion the turbo from impact.

Note: The actuator of your turbocharger (especially the electronic variety) are highly prone to damage in transit and must be given extra protection.  We suggest wrapping these components in multiple layers of bubble wrap, securing it in place with tape.

Once the turbocharger is placed inside the box, push more packaging material around and on top of the turbocharger, filling in any voids. This will prevent the turbo from moving inside the box during transit, reducing any potential damage.

Pay special attention along the edges of the box, as the middle of these (along with the middle of each side) are the weakest points of the box.

Before You Seal The Box

We need to know why you are sending us your turbocharger and, more importantly, who is sending it. We have created an Exchange Form for you to download, print off, fill in and place inside the box with your turbocharger.

International Customers

When sending us your turbocharger from outside of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, as well as the Exchange Form above, you must also remember to create a Customs Declaration. The declaration must go on the outside of the box for customs to inspect.  Multiple copies of the courier invoice may be needed, for both inside and outside the box.

Sealing The Box

Use enough packing tape to completely seal the box, to ensure it doesn’t come open or apart during transit.  We suggest wrapping packing tape fully around the box (top to bottom and around the sides) at least two or three times in a continuous loop.

When sending us your turbocharger, use packing tape in a loop around the box.
