Engineered Forced Induction & Exhaust Upgrades for BMW X3 G01 (B58, B48, B57)
Built on BMW’s rigid CLAR chassis architecture, the third-generation BMW X3 (G01) provides an exceptionally capable platform for high-output powertrain tuning. From the celebrated modular straight-six petrol B58 3.0L (M40i) and the responsive B48 2.0L 4-cylinder (20i, 30i, 30e Hybrid) to the colossal torque reserves of the B57 3.0L diesel (xDrive30d single-turbo and M40d twin-turbo), these powertrains possess immense tuning headroom.
However, extracting sustained Stage 2, Stage 3, and hybrid turbo power on a heavy all-wheel-drive SAV quickly exposes factory thermal and exhaust choke points: dense primary catalytic converters, mandatory post-2018 Gasoline/Diesel Particulate Filters (GPF/OPF), restrictive turbine housings, and thermal saturation inside the factory water-to-air charge-cooling circuit.
Our G01 performance hardware eliminates these mechanical bottlenecks directly:
-
Billet Hybrid Turbochargers: Standard factory turbos suffer from high shaft speeds and aggressive boost taper above 5,500 RPM. Engineered with 5-to-7-axis CNC-machined lightweight extended-tip billet compressor wheels, enlarged exhaust turbines, and heavy-duty 360-degree motorsport thrust bearings. Whether upgrading a B58 Gen 1 / B58TU1 on the M40i to hold peak boost past 6,500 RPM (yielding 550 to 650+ bhp), squeezing maximum volumetric efficiency from a B48, or pushing the sequential twin-turbo B57 M40d beyond 850 Nm of torque, these units bolt directly to OEM manifold locations and connect to factory oil and coolant lines.
-
Direct-Fit Uprated Charge-Cooler Radiators (Low-Temperature Heat Exchangers): Unlike older air-to-air intercooled platforms, the G01 utilises an indirect water-to-air charge-cooling system where the intercooler is integrated inside the intake manifold. During repeated launches, fast-road pulls, or heavy towing, the factory single-row front radiator cannot shed coolant heat fast enough, causing manifold water temperatures to spike and the DME/DDE to pull ignition timing. Our competition-grade, all-aluminium front-mount heat exchangers feature enlarged dual-pass bar-and-plate cores, providing up to a 60% increase in fluid volume to keep Intake Air Temperatures (IATs) low and boost pressure consistent.
-
Mandrel-Bent T304 Stainless Downpipes (Decat & Sports-Cat): Relieve massive hot-side backpressure right off the turbine exits. Fabricated from 3-inch, 3.5-inch, and stepped 4.5-to-3.5-inch aircraft-grade T304 stainless steel with precision TIG welds, our downpipes slash turbine backpressure, drop Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs) by up to 150°C, and accelerate turbo spool by 300–400 RPM while maintaining cabin acoustic refinement.

BMW B58 3.0L Petrol (M40i xDrive):
-
Pre-LCI (2017–2019 / B58B30M0): Factory-rated at 360 PS. Features standard Euro 6 emissions (early builds non-OPF).
-
LCI / B58TU1 (2019–2024 / B58B30O1): Factory-rated at 382 PS (North American / selected markets) or 360 PS (Euro 6d OPF). Features updated dual-branch cylinder head exhaust manifold and revised fuel system pressures (350 bar).
-
-
BMW B48 2.0L Petrol (xDrive20i, xDrive30i, xDrive30e PHEV): Direct-fit sports-cat and decat downpipes designed to clear front differential casings, accompanied by high-capacity heat exchangers engineered to accommodate auxiliary hybrid cooling circuits on 30e models.
-
BMW B57 3.0L Straight-Six Diesel (xDrive30d & M40d): Bolt-on decat/DPF-delete downpipes and high-pressure hybrid turbos safely lower EGTs under load while expanding mid-range torque on single-turbo (30d, 265 PS) and sequential twin-turbo (M40d, 326/340 PS) diesel setups.
-
xDrive Clearances & OPF Ports: All downpipes feature precision compound mandrel bends engineered to clear the front differential, right-side axle shaft, and transfer case. OPF-compatible variants include CNC-machined ports matching OEM differential pressure and temperature sensor bungs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do G20 3 Series (M340i) downpipes fit the G01 X3 M40i?
While the B58 engine architecture is identical, downpipes from a G20 M340i do not fit the G01 X3 M40i without modification. The G01 utilizes a taller front subframe, distinct transmission tunnel geometry, and specific hanger bracket positions to clear the heavy-duty xDrive transfer case. Dedicated G01 downpipes are required.
Why doesn’t the G01 X3 use a traditional front-mount intercooler?
The G01 uses an indirect water-to-air charge-cooling system built directly into the intake manifold. To improve charge-air cooling on these engines, you upgrade the front auxiliary low-temperature radiator (heat exchanger) with a larger-capacity dual-pass core rather than fitting a traditional air-to-air intercooler.
Will an aftermarket downpipe cause an engine management light (EML)?
Yes. Catless downpipes trigger secondary O2 sensor catalyst efficiency codes (P0420/P0430). On post-2018 OPF/GPF-equipped models and B57 diesels, removing particulate filters triggers differential pressure sensor codes. An appropriate Stage 2 ECU tune (DME/DDE calibration) or OPF emulator module is required to disable fault reporting.
