Engineered Forced Induction & Exhaust Hardware for BMW X4 (F26 & G02)
The BMW X4 combines the aggressive silhouette of a coupé with the high-riding traction of an all-wheel-drive platform. Whether building a high-power street build around the first-generation F26 M40i / 35i (N55), dialling in long-distance diesel torque on an N57 (30d, 35d), or tapping into the tuning potential of the modular CLAR-chassis G02 (B58 M40i, B57 M40d), the X4 platform possesses vast powertrain headroom.
However, aggressively remapping an SAC weighing 1.8 to over 2.0 tonnes creates severe thermal saturation and high-RPM exhaust backpressure. Heavy curb weight, restrictive primary catalytic converters, mandatory post-2018 Gasoline/Diesel Particulate Filters (GPF/OPF), and heat-soaked charge coolers quickly prompt the Bosch DME/DDE to pull ignition advance, drop boost targets, and cut fuel delivery.
Our X4 performance parts and hybrid turbos eliminate these mechanical restrictions directly:
-
Billet Hybrid Turbochargers (B58, N55, N57, B57): Standard factory turbos experience heavy boost taper above 5,500 RPM and excessive shaft speeds when pushed. Engineered with 5-to-7-axis CNC-machined lightweight extended-tip billet compressor wheels, oversized exhaust turbines, and heavy-duty 360-degree motorsport thrust bearings. Whether upgrading an N55 or B58 M40i to hold boost cleanly past 6,500 RPM (yielding 480 to 650+ bhp), uncorking the sequential N57 35d beyond 420 bhp and 850 Nm of torque, or tuning the B57 M40d, these units bolt directly to OEM manifold locations and mate to factory oil and coolant lines.
-
Direct-Fit Stepped Intercoolers & Charge-Cooler Radiators: Cooling architecture differs fundamentally between generations:
-
BMW X4 F26 (Air-to-Air): Features our stepped competition-grade front-mount intercoolers (FMIC). Offering up to an 85% increase in core volume with cast-aluminium end tanks, these drop Intake Air Temperatures (IATs) by up to 25°C compared to restrictive OEM tube-and-fin units.
-
BMW X4 G02 (Indirect Liquid-to-Air): Uses an intercooler core built inside the intake manifold. To lower IATs, our high-capacity dual-pass aluminium front heat exchangers (low-temperature radiators) expand fluid volume by up to 60%, preventing charge-air thermal soak during repeated hard pulls or hot weather.
-
-
Mandrel-Bent T304 Stainless Downpipes (Decat & Sports-Cat): Relieve massive hot-side backpressure right off the exhaust turbine exits. Fabricated from 3-inch, 3.5-inch, and stepped 4.5-to-3.5-inch aircraft-grade T304 stainless steel with precision TIG welds, our downpipes slash turbine backpressure, drop operating Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs) by up to 150°C, and accelerate turbo spool by 300–400 RPM while maintaining executive cabin refinement.
BMW X4 Platform & Generation Breakdown
-
BMW X4 F26 (2014–2018) — First Generation:
-
N55 3.0L Single-Turbo Petrol (35i & M40i): Early 35i models utilize Pneumatic Wastegate (PWG / 3.5″ flange); late 35i and all M40i (360 PS) models utilize Electronic Wastegate (EWG / 4.0″ flange). Upgraded aluminium charge pipes are mandatory to prevent catastrophic factory plastic pipe failure under boost.
-
Diesel Powertrains: Covers the high-torque N57 3.0L straight-six (xDrive30d single-turbo, xDrive35d sequential twin-turbo) and the B47 2.0L diesel (xDrive20d).
-
-
BMW X4 G02 (2018–Present) — Second Generation:
-
B58 3.0L Petrol (M40i xDrive): Supports both Pre-LCI (B58B30M0, 354–360 PS) and LCI (B58TU1, 382 PS / 360 PS Euro 6d OPF). Features 4.5-to-3.5-inch stepped downpipes and uprated dual-pass auxiliary radiators.
-
B57 3.0L Diesel (xDrive30d & M40d): Direct-fit high-flow DPF-delete downpipes and high-pressure hybrid turbos safely lower EGTs on single and twin-turbo setups.
-
-
xDrive Clearance & Rear Exhaust Routing: Unlike saloons, X4 downpipes feature precision compound mandrel bends engineered to clear the taller front subframe, right-side front axle driveshaft, and transfer case. Cat-back adapter pipes account for the X4’s specific Coupé floorplan length and dual-exit bumper valences.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do BMW X3 downpipes fit the BMW X4?
Yes. The BMW X4 shares chassis platforms, engine bays, subframe geometry, and drivetrain layouts with the equivalent-generation X3: F26 downpipes match F25 X3 fitment, and G02 downpipes match G01 X3 fitment. However, cat-back exhaust sections and tailpipe tips differ due to the X4’s distinct rear overhang and aerodynamic bumper valences.
What hardware is required for a Stage 2 ECU tune on an X4 M40i?
A high-flow sports-cat or decat downpipe is required across both N55 and B58 platforms to relieve turbine backpressure and manage EGTs. On the F26 N55, an upgraded stepped front-mount intercooler and aluminium charge pipe are mandatory. On the G02 B58, an uprated front charge-cooler radiator (heat exchanger) is strongly advised to maintain dense charge-air temperatures.
Will an upgraded downpipe cause an engine management light (EML)?
Yes. Catless downpipes trigger secondary O2 sensor efficiency codes (P0420/P0430). On diesels, removing the factory DPF flags differential pressure sensor codes; on post-2018 G02 models, OPF removal triggers backpressure sensor codes. An appropriate Stage 2 ECU tune (DME/DDE calibration) or OPF emulator module is required to disable fault reporting.
